The adult fly rarely lives more than a few days and serves to reproduce and disperse in search of new food sources, mainly liquids because flies have no teeth.

Some 36 hours after having emerged from the pupa, the female fly is receptive for mating.

Copulation takes between a few seconds to a couple of minutes, or, long enough for me to run and get my camera....a happy ending.
