Cats

On average, cats spend 2/3 of every day sleeping.

That means a nine-year-old cat has been awake for only three years of its life.

Imagine

Just imagine, Rudolph guiding Santa on his sleigh through the parting of the clouds.

Or maybe,

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
--John Lennon

Migrate

Did you know the Bar-tailed Godwit migrates from China to New Zealand in one flight, a distance of over 5,500 miles? Did you know some species of parrots fly 500 miles every day while looking for food?

Beached

It breaks my heart everytime I see an amazing creature of the sea, the California grey whale, beached, most recent, last week in Malibu.

Have you ever touched a "Gentle Giant?"

The most unbelievable, beyond description, sharing a proud mother whale lift her baby to the surface for me to touch, more that 1000 words, probably the best moment of my life, second to my wife Cindy, giving birth to our amazing daughter, Rebecca Lynn.

Raindrops

It's difficult to say, the average raindrop comes from various heights, but at sea level, a large raindrop, about the size of a house-fly, 20 miles per hour.

Doggie

Unable to finish what's on your plate?

In the 1940's, where the United States was engaged in World War ll, food shortages were a fact of life.

Pet owners were encouraged  to feed table scraps to fido.

Doggie bag?

* And I'm proud to be an American,

where at least I know I'm free.

And I won't forget the men who died,

who gave that right to me.

"Crowsfeet"

Did you know a smile with "crowsfeet" in the corners of someones eyes signals that they are genuinely happy.

If you don't see them, that "fake smile" would rather be talking to someone else.

Change the world, put a smile on your face, and thanks for the "crowsfeet."

Some days you kind of wonder where did the time go? One day you are changing diapers and before you know it, you are watching your daughter, Rebecca Lynn, scale an 80 foot granite wall.

Oh, i almost forgot, she wanted a sandwich halfway up!

Balance

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting....  --Jackson Browne

A long time ago, I was told by my photo boss "Stop thinking, do what you do best, take pictures!"

He was right.

Sunflowers

According to the Guinness World Records, the tallest sunflower to date measures 26 feet 4 inches grown by Hans-Peter Schiffer in Kaarst-Voorst, Germany.

Sunflowers exhibit a unique trait called heliotropism where the bud on the sunflower faces the sun at all times throughout the day, starting facing East and yep, ending West.

Mosquito's

Tomorrow is World Mosquito Day.

It's not really a celebration but rather we celebrate the day where a British doctor, Ronald Ross, discovered that female mosquito's transmit malaria between humans.

The discovery earned him a Nobel Prize in medicine.

How crazy would it be if this egret was a mosquito?

Heat

How are you keeping your cool?

With triple digit temperatures, the heat is on.

During this stretch, Death Valley is expected to reach 126 degrees.

I think Pacific Coast Highway is a better option.

I'm cool with that.

Cirrus

Cirrus clouds are often called mare's tails because the strong high winds blow the clouds into wispy curls like the tail of a horse.

The name originates from the Latin word meaning "Curl of Hair."

"Nacation"

Lock your doors!

It's not vacation but "Nacation."

Last week was "Nude Recreation Week" where nudists celebrated its creation 37 years ago. During the week, most clubs open their doors for free and let people see how much fun nude recreation can be.

Pretty much is possible, running, golf, tennis, yoga and even naked needlepoint.

Ouch!

Lagoon

The beginning of the Malibu Lagoon restoration project was postponed until to tomorrow as to not interfere with the weekends event at Surfrider Beach where a benefit for children with autism continues.

The 4-month project calls for draining 12-acres of wetland, scoop out tons of sediment, reshape the bank's and plant native vegetation for birds and fish, creating a viable ecosystem with ocean water once again flowing in and out.

Eclipse

I decided not to photograph the Ring of Fire solar eclipse because even though I have looked into the sun for 40-years to capture moments like these I knew it would be fruitless with the low clouds and fog.

But a screeching yell from the other room brought me running...is it another spider in the house?

My wife, Cindy Lou, yells, "Quick, grab your camera" and in a window of only 2-minutes, click, click, captured, gone.
